Sukom Ninety Eight Berhad is the organizing committee for the Kuala Lumpur 98 - XVI Commonwealth Games and was incorporated on 14 July 1992 before Malaysia's
successful bid on July 21, 1992, at Barcelona, Spain to host the XVI Commonwealth Games.
The name 'Sukom' is derived from the union of two words
in Malaysia's national language. They are 'Sukan' and 'Komanwel'.
'Sukan' means sports while 'Komanwel' is just a localized
spelling of Commonwealth, when translated into Bahasa Malaysia.
