WINDFALL FOR NATIONAL SHOOTERS
The national shooters who shot down one gold, four silvers and three bronzes in the 16th Commonwealth Games shooting competition at the Langkawi International Shooting Range stand to earn a windfall.
Team manager Musa Omar said Nurul Hudda Baharin who won a gold medal and set a new Games record in the women's air rifle individual event would receive RM80,000, with Mohd Emran Zakaria (silver in the men's air rifle individual and pairs) receiving RM60,000.
Bibiana Ng Pei Chin (silver in women's sport pistol individual and women's sport pistol pairs - RM60,000), Zainal Abidin Md Zain (silver in men's fullbore rifle individual - RM40,000).
Mutalib Abdul Razak (silver in men's air rifle pairs), Roslina Bakar (bronze in sport rifle 3 position women's individual), Norsita Mahmud (bronze in sport pistol women's pairs, Kamisah Abdul Jalal and Suriani Othman (bronze in air pistol women's pairs) will receive RM20,000.
City Bayview Hotel, which is the Games Village for the shooting competitors has also offered cash and free lodging worth RM15,000 to national shooters who won gold medal and broke the Games record.
Musa said Nurul Hudda also stood to earn another RM10,000 from Kurnia Insurans' award for outstanding athletes.
Meanwhile the Langkawi International Shooting Range which reverberated with gunfire since Sept 7, turned quiet today where most of the competing shooters had returned to Kuala Lumpur for the Games closing ceremony tonight.
