NATIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX TO BE CORPORATISED
KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Sept 98 (Bernama):
The National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil here, where most of the events of the 16th Commonwealth Games were held, will be corporatised.
Youth and Sports Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today this would enable the complex to be more efficiently managed.
"The complex can be fully used through proper planning, and under the management of a company there will be full-time supervision," he told a news conference at the Main Press Centre of the Commonwealth Games, which ended yesterday.
Muhyiddin said the complex was developed with the objective of hosting various international sporting events including the 2001 Sea Games, 2006 Asia Games and hopefully the 2008 Olympics.
The complex would also be used for other functions like dinners and concerts, he said.
The complex houses five stadiums of international standard -- for track and field events, hockey, squash, swimming and gymnastics. -- BERNAMA
