SECOND GAMES ATHLETE TESTED POSITIVE FOR BANNED SUBSTANCES
KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Sept 98 (Bernama):
A second athlete has tested positive for banned substances in the 16th Commonwealth Games which ended yesterday.
Health Ministry Director-General Tan Sri Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman confirmed the positive test but declined to reveal the identity of the athlete or the country concerned.
"Yes, there is a second positive test but you have to check with the CGF (Commonwealth Games Federation)," he said at a press conference by Youth and Sports Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Main Press Centre here today.
However, no CGF officials were available for comment.
It is believed that the athlete is not a medallist.
Last week, a Pakistani shooter was summoned to be present at the Doping Control Centre here for his second urine test.
All urine samples were sent to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Laboratory in Pulau Pinang for testing. -- BERNAMA
